Victory Lap...

So as the semester is winding down, I find myself surrounded by lingering graduation questions..

"Have you registered for graduation?"
"Have you ordered your cap and gown?"
"Who all is coming for you graduation?"
"How many tickets do we get?"
"What are you doing once you graduate?"

etc..

Unfortunately, and perhaps fortunately at the same time, my answer to all of the above is simply..."I'm not graduating." I assume some may take that as a bad thing, but to be completely honest I am in no way, shape, or form ready to graduate. I am sure my parents are more than ready for that day to come seeing as their situation has gone a little like this:

The first of their four children, Karl, went to App undergrad and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Physics (I think) in a decent 5 years. He then continued on to get his PhD (yes, my brother will soon be Dr. Schelhammer) in Physics as well and has got to be the smarterst person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He still, however, is in the process of reaching that doctorate level...

We then go onto Dean, the second oldest. He went to Western Carolina for a year, transferred to NCSU for a few years and has now found his way to Full Sail University in Orlando, FL. He is finally getting the chance to do what he loves, which is Music Production (I'm sure it has a much fancier name but I don't know what that is-might be Recording Arts). He knows more about music than literally anyone I have ever met and will be unbelievably successful upon his graduation in April of 2011 I believe...I can't wait for him to become famous and introduce me to some cool people...

Christine, the third oldest or second youngest, is found in the dictionary right next to Best Child Ever. She graduated from NCSU in FOUR YEARS in Business Management with a concentration in Finance (smarty pants). She then moved to Boulder, got a very good job, has already received numerous bonus' if I remember correctly, and still manages to act like a 23 year old on the weekends. For a parent that has got to just be heaven sent seeing as she requires no extra funding for subsequent schooling.

Then, there is little old me, the fourth oldest or just plain youngest. I Should be graduating in just a short few weeks, however am taking what I choose to call my Victory Lap and finishing up in December 2011. I would then love to go to grad school in Texas (close to home-cooked meals from the rents) to get my masters in Advertising. It only took four and half years of Textiles to realize that's not at all want I want to do with my life...great.

So all and all, we are close to about 16-18 years of college level education between the four of us...which leads me back to my first statement...

"I am sure my parents are more than ready for that day to come"

At least I can say this... between the four of us we may have taken a few too many years to graduate, but there is no doubt in my mind Karl will be the maddest (in a good/cool way) of mad scientists, Dean will undoubtedly be the gnarliest music producer in the world, Christine will be smartest/prettiest/funniest Operations Analyst (FoHF) ever, and I will just ride the coat tails of all three of them :) Or if I am lucky, get my dream job working in PR in the NFL....Mom and Dad I promise we will make you proud :)

..If those aren't the faces of success I don't know what is...

  1. I believe that from this day forward, you should write the Christmas letter. What a great job you did capturing the 4 Schelhammer "children"! We are so proud of y'all and can't wait to see where you y'all land.
